Apolo Answers Two Questions Exclusively for the Apolo Portal!
Thanks to Stephanie of Speed Reading, I was able to contribute some questions to the interview she conducted with Apolo via email. The following questions were answered exclusively for the Apolo Portal. The rest of the interview will be published in the first issue of Speed Reading. Click here to go to the Speed Reading site to learn how to subscribe and get your copy. Many thanks to Stephanie (and to Apolo, of course)!

The questions and Apolo's answers
AAO Portal/Joanna: In your autobiography, you expressed an appreciation for the safety mats which are used in Calgary for speed skating. Do you know if plans are being made to use the safer, movable mats in the 2006 Winter Olympics?

Apolo: I don't know, I really hope so. It would make the sport safer, more enjoyable and people never want to see another person become injured for life. It would help the sport excel as there would be less danger.

AAO Portal/Joanna: In a recent interview after the World Cup competition in St. Petersburg, you said that the last day of competition had been a "fun" day. Could you explain what makes a competition or race fun, as opposed to "not fun" or "just normal"?

Apolo: Well, in St. Petersburg it was my first world cup of the season, and after almost a year of competing at the highest caliber of competition, I was so happy to be racing again with the best.

(Note: Apolo's answers have not been edited or altered in any way.)
