Planning a family ski holiday can often seem daunting, particularly if you have little ones. Here are some helpful tips you may not have thought of, which should ensure the whole family have a great time out on the slopes.

1. Get Properly Equipped

It’s important, especially for children, to be safe and comfortable. Rent helmets at the resort to save carrying them there. Wear layers, so that you can easily change your body temperature should you get too hot. Socks and gloves are vital as your hands and feet can get cold very quickly. You could save money by renting your gear or borrowing from friends and family.

2. Resort Choice

Choose the resort for your holiday with the age of your children in mind. Young kids need good beginner slopes and professional instructors, older and experienced children might want snowboarding pipes or something a bit more challenging.

3. Lift Passes

Kids can easily lose their passes if they’re not careful, especially if they’re away learning without you. Keep them safe in a zip-up pocket, so that they don’t get lost.

4. Child Minding

Consider resorts that provide nannies or crèches. If the kids get sleepy or need a rest, keeping them up on the slopes will just make them more irritated.

5. Alternative Activities

Skiing can be tiring, so make sure the resort has other activities to wind down with. Hotels often have other sources of entertainment such as play areas and DVDs. There are often leisure centres and shopping areas, too.

6. Proper Instruction

Hire ski instructors for the youngsters. It’s important for newcomers to learn to best and safest ways to ski, you’ll avoid injuries and better still your children will make lots of new friends. If none of your family has ever skied, you might want to consider trying out an indoor slope before heading on holiday.

7. Eye protection

Sunglasses and goggles are really important. You’d be amazed how brightly the sun can reflect off the snow and it easily damages your eyes if you’re not careful. Goggles obviously help from any snow that gets sprayed up as you skiing, too.

8. Keep hydrated

Keep water on you at all times. Skiing is fun but can also be hard work and you quickly become dehydrated. The air is thinner at high altitudes as well, meaning it’s important to have plenty of fluid.

9. Weather

You can’t predict the weather very far in advance but make sure you check a few days ahead. If it’s raining you’ll be glad of the heads up; you’ll know what equipment to take and can plan your day out.

10. The Local Scene

Pick up the local paper every day. It’s not just useful for weather, you’ll get a good idea of what’s going on in the area and can quickly find out about any events you might be interested in. A map of the area, particularly if it’s a large resort, is absolutely vital as well. Grab one up as soon as you arrive.

A lot of risk is involved in this sport and hence it should not be practiced withoutproper training. It is a very interesting sport and we can enjoy watching speed skating in the Winter Olympics. The name of the sport itself indicates that it involves high speed that is more than 30 miles per hour. More speed means that the injuries are also going to be more disastrous powerful-. Never try to pursue this game on your own as it may lead to great disasters and might even put your life at risk.

Safety Equipment

Safety equipments are necessary for all kinds of winter sports including speed skating. Safety gear is very important and it has to be worn throughout the event. Usually safety gear consists of a helmet, elbow pads and kneepads that provide safety and reduce the risk of injuries. Always use the ice track instead of a frozen pool. Ice rinks are mainly designed for the purpose of speed skating and it would be safe to practice the game on them.

Types Of Races In Speed Skating

You can find many different types of races in this kind of winter sports. Usually in professional speed skating, you will find pairs of competitors on the ice track. There are two lanes in each track. Each person in a pair is provided with a specific color band. At a given point, the skaters will have to change lanes. The colored band helps the judges to identify that the skaters were in which lane when they started in the beginning. It also helps to ensure that same amount of distance is covered by both the skaters.
In the other case, if the race is between a pair of teams then they are positioned on the track at different locations. This is done to avoid their coming in each other’s way . The judges track the time and distance covered by each pair of team.
You will find one more type of racing in winter sports known as marathon speed skating. Here you will find that all the participants start from the same location and they try to get ahead of each other. Generally, there is a lot of pushing and bumping involved in the process.

Types Of Skates In Speed Skating

As there are various events involved in the winter sports, the type of event determines the type of skates that you have to use in speed skating. You can find the regular ice skates, however if you are planning forlong distance speed skating then clap skates will be the ideal choice for you. It consists of a hook on the boot attached to the blade. As the blade has a continuous contact with the ice this hook assists the skater to get more control over the skates and allows him to move faster.

The increasing popularity of speed skating is encouraging more and more people to participate in this event. However if you want to engage in this sport then firstly you have to choose the right skates for the particular type of skating event that you prefer. Then make sure to wear all the safety equipments and take all the precautionary measures meant for winter sports.

Ice skating is a sport that can be exercised all year round. Indeed it becomes popular during the winter season and there are lots of open and closed skating rinks available in every bigger town or city.

If you live around Leicester and you want to try ice skating but you are still new at this, read on to find out what are the most important issues you should know in advance.

Leicester skating on ice will give you many hours of fun only if you find and visit a high quality skating rink. The quality of ice, presence of skating assistants, convenient location and long open hours are the things you must check in advance. Also those who want to go ice skating with their kids must heck if there are special “kids” hours available at the rink.

Price should also be checked. Some skating venues may look cheaper compared to other but they may offer short sessions. What you should do is to check the price and the length of the skating session you would get for it. In addition some Leicester skating rinks offer combiner tickets for parents and children so this might be good money for value option.

Once you have selected the venue where you will go, you must take care of the equipment. Some Leicester skating venues may have equipment rental offices so you might be able to take ice skates and use them when you want to go instead of buying your own ice skates. However if you plan to go skating on a regular basis you better buy your own ice skates. Indeed buying a new pair of skates may be a bit expensive and if this is out of your budget you can simply buy second hand skates. What is important is the skates to fit you well and have well preserved blades. Good option for your kid would be to rent skates as his or her feet will grow fast. In this respect you can call the Leicester skating rinks and ask what sizes are available to rent for kids. Some rinks have double blade skates that strap to a child’s shoe and these are usually perfect for smaller kids.

Finally here is a place you can consider checking out – Leicester on Ice is a new skating rink that has nothing but perfect conditions for both adults and kids. The rink is opened long hours, has special sessions for parents with kids and skate rental services. Visit Leicester Ice Skating Website

As soon as the snowflakes hit the ground, the winter sports enthusiasts take to the slopes for another season of fun and thrills. Snowboarding has been catching up amongst all age groups in the past years due to which there have been specially assigned slopes for snowboarding and specially designed snowboard equipment in order to make it safe.

Practice Safe Snowboarding

The only way to practice safe snowboarding is to wear the right snowboard equipment and, of course, know your way on the snowboard. Snowboarding is a sport inspired by surfing and we all know that if you fall off your surf board you have the water beneath, which will catch you without posing major risks however, when you practice snowboarding, if you fall, you are likely to hit solid ground which can cause serious injuries especially from the height and with the speed a snowboarder travels.

Therefore, it is extremely important you wear the adequate snowboard equipment before you strap yourself to the board in order to be safe and in case of a fall you should not have any major injuries.

The Essentials

There a few items in the snowboard equipment without which you may face a greater risk to injure yourself and therefore, I strongly recommend you consider wearing them whenever you practice snowboarding.

The helmet for your head protection is one of the most important pieces of snowboard equipment. Wearing a helmet will ensure that your head is protected when you happen to fall on the slopes.

Padding of the knees, elbows and hips is required as those are the buffer zones when you fall; your hips need protection as the backbone ends there and that is one of the few parts of the body where a snowboarder will get hurt if he or she happens to fall.

Gloves and body suit are the usual types used for skiing and you can wear them as you like as long as you ensure that your body is warm in the freezing temperature so you don’t go into hypothermia.

Every single piece of equipment is important when in extreme temperature for it only takes a few minutes before permanent damages can be done to any of your body parts. All the snowboarding equipment can be hired or purchased as you choose from local store in your hometown or those available at the snowboarding resort. You may however, be able to get some good bargains if you choose to purchase during off season such as in summer time.
